Animalia is a book of incredible scope, insight and erudition. Subtitled 'A Synthesis of Homeopathic Themes, Mappa Mundi, Provings & Clinical Cases,' it brings together a range of approaches to understanding and prescribing homeopathic remedies, specifically remedies of the animal kingdom. The text reflects a rich immersion into what it is to be a healthy human and how to prescribe effectively when imbalance and dis-ease arise. There is incredible attention to detail and wonderful animal kingdom and sub-kingdom differentiation.
The introduction sets the scene, introducing common animal remedy themes by comparing and contrasting them with plant and mineral kingdom remedies, extending this into a detailed explanation of the mappa mundi and the four temperaments, and finally weaving in astrological mythology and its relevance for homeopathy. It is clear and considered, illustrated with really helpful diagrams and it builds a strong foundation for the chapters on the six animal families that follow: Spiders, Birds, Insects, Mammals, Snakes and Sea Animals.
The book concludes with a chapter on Miasms and Mythology - a discussion of archetypal energy patterns as we understand them in homeopathy, bringing the total number of chapters to eight.
This is a beautiful, well-wrought first book from Luke Norland and will entertain, stimulate and deeply educate both students and more experienced practitioners of homeopathy alike.
