A Vogel Crataegus (Hawthorn) Extract is a tincture made from Hawthorn berries. Hawthorn berries are a deep, red fruit which have been used for centuries to promote a healthy circulatory system.
Crataegus berries are edible and during World War I, Crataegus (Hawthorn) seeds were ground and used instead of coffee. In addition, Hawthorn leaves were used instead of tea and tobacco.
The use of Crataegus or, as it is more commonly known, Hawthorn, is shrouded in folklore and tradition. Hawthorn is also known as the May Tree, due to the beautiful white blossoms that it produces in May.
More crucially Hawthorn berries have been used in healthcare as far back as the 15th century and are known as a tonic.
