This new book is the first of two volumes from master homeopath Louis Klein on dementia and homeopathy. This volume comprehensively examines the use of fish remedies for treating the cognitive decline involved in Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The homeopathic perspective on this decline is discussed, followed by a wonderful exploration of the general themes of fish remedies and then individual fish remedy pictures. Hitherto unknown fish remedies are included such as great white shark, brown trout and New Zealand kahawai, alongside many more familiar fish such as salmon, eel and gadus morhua (Atlantic cod).
In section 3 of the book, we find a categorizing of the remedies into groups, so that prescribing can be more systematic and reliable, and each group has its own homeopathic commentary, further expanding its characteristics. Section 4 provides a welcome overview of dementia and Alzheimer's, as the author looks to differentiate clearly between different kinds of dementia and Alzheimer's, such as Lewy body dementia, Vascular dementia, Huntington's disease and Korsakoff syndrome among others.
Klein also briefly summarises the seven stages of Alzheimer's diseases and dementia in this section and concludes with a commentary on the role of homeopathic therapy in this very new and challenging field, specifically the relevance of 'obstacles to cure' in people living with dementia, who may need to make substantial lifestyle changes in order to heal.
A beautifully presented book that will be of great assistance to any practitioner working with older people.
